{"id":23442,"date":"2013-04-26T09:57:07","date_gmt":"2013-04-26T13:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sustainableagriculture.net\/?p=23442"},"modified":"2013-06-05T12:39:18","modified_gmt":"2013-06-05T16:39:18","slug":"healthier-food-sucessful-farms-staring-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sustainableagriculture.net\/blog\/healthier-food-sucessful-farms-staring-now\/","title":{"rendered":"Healthier food, successful farms:  starting now."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Supporter,<\/p>\n<p>Wherever there\u2019s local food, there are farmers feeding communities and creating jobs.\u00a0 Farmers and ranchers are responding to skyrocketing demand for fresh, healthy food everywhere \u2013 at farmers\u2019 markets, grocery stores, and in schools across the nation.\u00a0 At the same time, the farmers <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainableagriculture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/DSC0279-smaller.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-23447 alignleft\" alt=\"_DSC0279 smaller\" src=\"https:\/\/sustainableagriculture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/DSC0279-smaller-201x300.jpg\" width=\"177\" height=\"262\" \/><\/a>and ranchers across the country who feed us are getting older \u2013 the average American farmer is 57!\u00a0 Now is the time to invest in the next generation of folks who want to raise our food and steward the land.\u00a0 They\u2019re going to be job creators, entrepreneurs, and innovators \u2013 as long as we help them get the tools they need to succeed.<\/p>\n<p><b>How can we help farmers keep up with this increased demand? How can we help the next generation of farmers and ranchers succeed?\u00a0<\/b> One key way is to make targeted investments in programs that create opportunities for new farmers and support local and regional food production.<\/p>\n<p>There are two bills in Congress right now \u2013 <i>The Local Farms, Food, and Jobs Act and the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Opportunity Act<\/i> \u2013 whose inclusion in the 2013 Farm Bill will mean <b>more new farmers<\/b> in the field,<b> increased income for farmers who produce healthy food<\/b> for local communities, and more<b> jobs in rural and urban areas<\/b> across the country.<\/p>\n<p>This is something everyone on both sides of the aisle can get behind \u2013 <b>will you make a call today and ask your legislators to co-sponsor these two bills?\u00a0 <\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>Call (202) 224-3121 to connect directly with the offices of your Members of Congress.<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>Before you make a call, check <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainableagriculture.net\/our-work\/local-food-bill\/co-sponsors\/\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/sustainableagriculture.net\/our-work\/beginning-farmer-bill\/bfr-co-sponsors\/\">here!<\/a><\/b>\u00a0 I<b>f you see any of your legislators on these lists of co-sponsors, make your call a THANK YOU call!\u00a0<\/b> Legislative co-sponsors are vital for the success of these bills \u2013 they can help move the bills through Congress and ensure they are included in the next farm bill.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i>Just pick up the phone and tell them you&#8217;ve got a message for your legislators:\u00a0 <\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i>I am a constituent and a voter (Tell \u2018em if you\u2019re a farmer!).
