{"id":53543,"date":"2020-02-06T11:31:56","date_gmt":"2020-02-06T16:31:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sustainableagriculture.net\/?p=53543"},"modified":"2020-02-24T09:40:40","modified_gmt":"2020-02-24T14:40:40","slug":"2020-nsac-policy-priorities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sustainableagriculture.net\/blog\/2020-nsac-policy-priorities\/","title":{"rendered":"RELEASE: National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition Sets 2020 Policy Priorities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contact: Reana Kovalcik<br>National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition<br>P: 202-547-5754, E:&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"mailto:rkovalcik@sustainableagriculture.net\" target=\"_blank\">rkovalcik@sustainableagriculture.net<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition Sets 2020 Policy Priorities<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Washington, DC, February 4, 2020 \u2013&nbsp;<\/em>Last week, representatives from the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition\u2019s (NSAC) 130+ member organizations voted on a&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/sustainableagriculture.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/2020-NSAC-Priorities.pdf?emci=edf2059e-c346-ea11-a1cc-00155d03b1e8&amp;emdi=ea000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&amp;ceid=\" target=\"_blank\">final set of policy and funding priorities<\/a>&nbsp;to guide the Coalition\u2019s work through 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>\u201cThis collaborative priority setting process is the heart of our work at NSAC,\u201d said NSAC Policy Director Eric Deeble. \u201cOur members work on a wide variety of issues, from climate change in agriculture to credit and crop insurance, and this process ensures that the focus and power of the Coalition is on the most critical issues.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Gathered together at McAllen, Texas\u2019 historic Casa de Palmas hotel, Represented Members of the Coalition debated and then finalized a set of annual priorities, which had been developed by the Coalition\u2019s Issue Committees in the months preceding the January Member Meeting. Ultimately, three top campaign priorities (issues on which the entire coalition agrees to engage) were chosen: Working Lands Conservation, Beginning and Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers, and the Local Agriculture Market Program (LAMP).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Coalition also identified several additional annual and multi-year campaign issues \u2013 including climate change and agriculture, small meat processing, and immigration \u2013 on which NSAC will engage, as well as a list of appropriations priorities for fiscal year (FY) 2021. Priority programs for NSAC\u2019s appropriations campaigns include the following USDA programs: Farming Opportunities Training and Outreach, Food Safety Outreach Program, Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education, and LAMP.
